Question 1

What is The Contour Bar?

Accepted Answer

The Contour Bar is a flexible cleansing bar. It bends in your hand, wraps around your body, and springs back to shape. It's not a jelly that melts, and it's not a soap that's harder than your wall.

Question 2

What does "flexible" actually mean?

Accepted Answer

It means you can bend it. Squeeze it, curve it around your shoulder or shin, and when you let go it springs back. We measure that on the F-Scale, which runs from F0 (a pourable liquid) to F10 (a rigid bar). The Contour Bar is F5, halfway between the two.

Question 3

Does it only flex when it's warm or wet?

Accepted Answer

No. It flexes the same wet or dry, in hot water or cold. Warm water is for lather, not for waking the bar up.

Question 4

How is it different from a regular bar of soap?

Accepted Answer

It bends, it lasts, and it's less mess. A regular bar is hard, so it slips, cracks, and wears down into slivers. In our testing, The Contour Bar rinses clean without leaving a scummy film, and most people get 30 or more washes from one.

Question 5

Is it actually soap?

Accepted Answer

No. The Contour Bar is a cleansing bar, and it doesn't meet the US definition of soap. Under FDA rules, a product counts as soap only if it's made mainly of the salts that form when fats or oils react with lye, and those salts do the cleaning. The Contour Bar cleans with synthetic cleansing agents (surfactants) instead, so it's classed as a cosmetic. You use it the same way: wet it, lather it, rinse.

Question 6

What's the difference between Smooth and With Grit?

Accepted Answer

Smooth is the everyday bar for washing your body. With Grit adds natural volcanic pumice for rough skin and post-workout days, and it's made for below the neck, hands, and feet. Both are flexible, and you can mix them in one order or Club shipment. Neither bar is for the face.

Question 7

What scent does it have?

Accepted Answer

One: Original Scent. Both Smooth and With Grit use it, so the choice stays about how the bar feels. We don't offer an unscented bar right now.

Question 8

What does the Original Scent smell like?

Accepted Answer

Clean. That's all it's meant to do. We didn't want a scent that stands out, because The Contour Bar is about how it feels to use, not how it smells. We added a scent so you can smell the clean as you wash.

Question 9

How long does one bar last?

Accepted Answer

In our testing, most people get 30 or more washes from one bar, which is about a month of daily showers. How you store it makes a big difference.

Question 10

Will it crack, crumble, or melt?

Accepted Answer

It's made not to. It wears down gradually as you use it instead of falling apart.

Question 11

How big is one bar?

Accepted Answer

Approximately 3.5 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, and 0.75 inches thick, just a little smaller than the box it comes in.

Question 12

How do you say SANSNiK, and what does it mean?

Accepted Answer

SANS-nick. It comes from sans (without) and nik (pain). The idea is that everyday things shouldn't hurt, even a little, starting with soap.

Question 13

How do I use it for the first time?

Accepted Answer

Wet the bar, work it between your palms to build lather, wash as you normally would, then rinse. Afterward, set it somewhere it can drain and dry.

Question 14

How should I store it between showers?

Accepted Answer

Set it out where it can dry between uses. You can use a soap dish if you like, but you don't need one. Keeping a bar constantly wet is what softens it, so don't leave it sitting in a puddle.

Question 15

Do I need a soap dish?

Accepted Answer

No. You can use one, but the bar is fine just set out where it can dry between uses. If it stays wet for long stretches it may get softer. Let it dry a bit and it returns to its original feel and size.

Question 16

My bar feels softer than usual. Is something wrong?

Accepted Answer

Probably not. A bar softening while you wash is normal, and if it's kept wet continuously it may soften more. Let it dry a bit and it returns to its original feel and size. If it still doesn't feel right, tell us and we'll look into it.

Question 17

The lather feels thin. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

Work the bar between your palms a little longer before you wash. Cold water and a short lather can mute the foam.

Question 18

Can I travel with it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Let it dry first, then pack it in something that won't hold water against it. A dry bar travels better than a wet one sealed in a pouch. Open the case when you arrive so it can dry.

Question 19

When should I replace my bar?

Accepted Answer

When it's worn thin and the wash no longer feels like enough. Most people get 30 or more washes first. If you'd rather never think about it, The Contour Club sends the next one before the last is gone.

Question 20

Can I use it on my face?

Accepted Answer

No. The Contour Bar and The Contour Bar With Grit are body bars, so please don't use either one on your face.

Question 21

What's in The Contour Bar?

Accepted Answer

The Contour Bar (Smooth) contains Glycerin, Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Corn Starch, Carrageenan, Potato Starch, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, and Titanium Dioxide.

Question 22

What's in The Contour Bar With Grit?

Accepted Answer

The full ingredient list is on The Contour Bar With Grit product page. The grit is granulated pumice.

Question 23

Does it contain fragrance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Fragrance is on the ingredient list, so this isn't a fragrance-free bar.

Question 24

Does it contain sulfates?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is one of its two cleansing agents, along with Cocamidopropyl Betaine. Together they clean and build the lather. If you avoid sulfates, this isn't the bar for you.

Question 25

What's the grit in With Grit?

Accepted Answer

Natural volcanic pumice, not plastic microbeads.

Question 26

Is it good for sensitive skin?

Accepted Answer

We can't promise any cleanser is right for sensitive skin, because skin varies so much. Read the ingredient list, test a small area first, and stop using it if your skin reacts. If you have a specific concern, ask us and we'll answer plainly. SANSNiK products are cosmetic cleansers and aren't intended to treat any skin condition.
