We love the idea of bar soap. Using it is another story. It’s a hard brick that digs into your hand, slips away from you, cracks as it dries, and turns to paste in a wet dish. Shower jellies are softer, but they melt before the week is out. So we spent two and a half years building a bar with no catch.
Some days you want a gentle wash, and other days you want a scrub. So we made the bar two ways, and we put them together here for $5 less than buying them one at a time.
Both bars are built to bend. They flex in your hand, curve around your shoulders and knees, and spring back to shape when you let go. They do that in a hot shower and at a cold sink, so there’s no warming them up first. Both are an on our F-scale, which runs from a pourable liquid (F0) to a rigid bar (F10). That’s right in the middle.
Both come in one Original Scent. The grit in the With Grit bar is finely milled volcanic pumice, not plastic microbeads, and it stays evenly mixed through the bar as it wears down.

Most bars crack, crumble, or go mushy long before you’re done with them. These just get smaller.
Both bars just get smaller from wash 1 to wash 30+. Same shape, same give — and on With Grit, the scrub stays even the whole way.
Most people get 30+ washes from each bar, and letting them dry between uses gets you even more. Results vary with water temperature, water pressure, how long you wash, and how the bars are stored. Standing water shortens a bar’s life more than washing does.

Neither bar is traditional soap, so there’s nothing in them to bind with the minerals in hard water and leave a crust. When we tested them next to other bars, ours left no stain, paste, or scum.
A rigid bar chips when you drop it, and it hurts when it lands on your foot. These give. They won’t chip, dent, or shatter, and your toes will be fine.
Pat them dry and set them on any dry surface, or toss one in your gym bag. There’s no mush to wait out and nothing left on your towel, and the pumice in the With Grit bar stays in the bar.
Traditional soap is very alkaline, which can leave your skin feeling tight. These bars are formulated at a neutral pH.
Small details add up: a cleaner shower, a bar that doesn’t chip when it drops, no drying rack, and a wash that doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight.
Both bars are built on glycerin, corn starch, potato starch, and carrageenan, a gel made from seaweed. The With Grit bar adds natural volcanic pumice for the scrub, so there are no plastic microbeads. Everything is designed and made in the US, ingredients and packaging included, and the packaging is plastic-free.
