Getting Started with the Blade Bar

This article introduces the Blade Bar’s innovative razor-lubricating design, highlighting its key benefits—comfort, precision, and eco-friendliness. We’ll walk you through the simple steps to get started, from setup, to your first shave, with tips and links to dive deeper. Whether you’re new to shaving or looking to upgrade your routine, this guide makes using the Blade Bar easy and effective. Let’s get started.

What Is The Blade Bar?

The Sansnik Blade Bar revolutionizes shaving by redefining lubrication. Unlike traditional shaving creams or gels, the Blade Bar lubricates your razor's blades rather than your skin. This innovative approach ensures consistent protection throughout your shave, eliminating the need for cream application and delivering a smoother, mess-free experience. In addition, the Blade Bar’s lubricant is designed for shower use, where warm water softens your skin and hair for maximum comfort and an even closer shave. This lubrication is achieved through a simple yet effective process that coats your razor directly. By gently gliding your razor across the mounted bar’s surface in a unique stropping motion, a thin, durable lubricant layer is applied to the blade edges. This creates a precise barrier between the blade and your skin, reducing friction, preventing irritation, eliminating razor burn, and allowing confident, visible shaving in any direction. Unlike shaving cream, which requires reapplication after a single pass, the Blade Bar keeps your razor lubricated independently of your skin. This enables multiple passes over the same area, shaving in any direction, ensuring you reach difficult spots and leave no unshaved patches behind.

In short, the Blade Bar offers several key advantages:

  • Unparalleled Comfort: By lubricating your razor, rather than your skin, the Blade Bar ensures comfort and protection with every stroke. Shave freely, making repeated passes over the same spot, with or against the grain, enjoying a closer, smoother shave free of irritation or razor burn.

  • Water-Friendly Design: The Blade Bar excels in the shower, enabling true wet shaving. With softer hair and moisturized skin, you achieve a closer shave with minimal irritation and razor burn.

  • Mess-Free Precision: The Blade Bar’s solid lubricant eliminates the mess of traditional shaving creams and gels. With a clear view of your face, you can shave precisely, avoiding missed spots and post-shave cleanup.

  • Eco-Conscious Shaving: The Blade Bar enhances your shave while reducing environmental impact. Formulated with simple, eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients, it leaves no harsh chemicals behind or washes them down the drain. Its biodegradable packaging further supports sustainable shaving, letting you feel good about your routine and the planet.

Ready to get started? Let’s prep your Blade Bar.

Preparing Your Blade Bar

Before your first shave, set up your Blade Bar for success:

  • Awaken the Bar: The bar will not be sticky when it arrives and must first be washed with water for a few seconds and then allowed to fully air dry to become sticky enough to mount on your chosen surface..

  • Mount It: Place the bar in your shower on a smooth, non-porous surface (e.g., glossy tile, glass)—head height for face shaving, lower for legs. See Going In-Depth: Sticking and Troubleshooting.

  • Choose a Razor: Use a multi-blade razor (3+ blades, like Gillette Mach3 Sensitive). Sansnik’s testing found these distribute pressure evenly for optimal lubrication, unlike single-blade safety razors.

  • Clean Your Skin: Wash your face or body to remove oils, ensuring a smoother glide.

  • Prep with Water: Use warm water (90–100°F) in the shower to soften skin and hair. Drench your skin and razor, but lightly wet the Blade Bar.

With your tools ready, you’re set for a flawless shave.

Your First Shave

Follow these steps to experience the Blade Bar’s magic:

  • Soak Skin and Razor: Spend 2–3 minutes in the shower, wetting your skin and the razor with warm water to soften your hair and open your pores.

  • Wet the Blade Bar: With your skin and razor wetted, lightly wet the bar with a splash of water. Avoid soaking, as water-logging the bar will soften it too much and cause it to become unstuck from its mounting surface.

  • Strop the Razor: Next, glide your razor across the Blade Bar’s exposed surface several times using light pressure. Continue this until the blades appear coated with a clear gel (Depending on the hardness or softness of your water, the bar may work up a visible lather as you strop). Always strop on a mounted bar for even lubrication across the length of the razor’s blades and for added safety—hand-held use risks uneven coating and cuts. For more information on stropping, see Going In-Depth: Stropping Techniques.

  • Shave with Precision: With your razor lubricated, it’s time to shave! Use short, gentle strokes with the grain to begin. The Blade Bar’s no-mess formula ensures visibility, ensuring zero missed spots. Rinse the razor often and restrop every few passes (e.g., after a side of your face or leg) for consistent glide and comfort. When finished shaving, wash your razor thoroughly to remove any hair or unused lubricant.

  • Apply AfterBlade Bar: If you are using our exclusive aftershave product, the AfterBlade Bar, use it following your shave. Glide it along your wetted skin and massage gently to lock in moisture and encourage skin health. For more information about the AfterBlade Bar, see The AfterBlade Bar.

Tips for a Perfect Routine

Your Blade Bar can stay mounted for months, ready for each shave. Keep it wet during use but dry afterward to maintain its lifespan. Replace it every 14 weeks or as soon as the bar shows signs of significant surface wear or distortion. For travel, dry the bar and store flat.
